The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Kankakee are now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer

Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire 10-12 Police Officers and to establish an Eligibility List for anticipated hiring needs

Kankakee is located 60 miles south of the City of Chicago. Situated along the beautiful Kankakee River, it boasts natural beauty and outdoor adventures. There are museums, parks, race car circuits, restaurants, and plenty of more activities to enjoy in this wonderful city.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application and at time of hire.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date of filing applications (10/27/21). Applicants must be under 35 years old at the last date for filing applications on 10/27/21 and at such time as the Final Eligibility is posted, unless they have been employed and certified as a full-time police officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
  • Education: Must have a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
  • Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
  • Residence: Must reside within Kankakee County within one year of your hire date.
  • Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
  • P.O.W.E.R. CARD NOT REQUIRED: However, candidates that do possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card issued between the dates of 10/27/2020 and 10/27/2021 WILL be exempt from taking the Physical Ability Test on the day of testing.

 

Note: There will be a physical examination conducted on the day of testing for any applicants who does not possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card.
