Event Description

Join the Kankakee Public Library as we collaborate with the Downtown Train Depot for our 12th annual Lion Wreathing and Tree Lighting! On Thursday, December 6th at 5:30pm inside the 1st floor of the library, Kankakee’s mayor, Chasity Wells-Armstrong, will choose two children who will officially wreath the historic lions outside of the Kankakee Public library.
Following the wreathing celebration, we will march our citizens to the Train Depot where Santa will make a grand entrance with the help from our local fire department. Enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, Christmas carols, and holiday cheer as we officially bring in the holidays as we light the city’s Christmas tree.
The Lion Wreathing and City Tree Lighting is sponsored by the Kankakee Events Partnership. This event will be free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Kankakee Public Library at 815.939.4564.
