Smoke & CO Detector Inspection Information
We offer FREE smoke detectors (only) to owner-occupied residents within the city limits.
Required smoke detectors:
1 on each level of house (including basement and occupiable attics)
1 within 15' of all sleeping areas
1 in each bedroom
Required CO detector:
1 on each livable floor including the basement and attic
1 within 15' of all sleeping areas

The City of Kankakee Fire Department requires smoke detector inspections prior to the sale of homes.
