MAYOR WELLS-ARMSTRONG DELIVERS FIRST STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS

KANKAKEE – Kankakee Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong delivered her first State of the City Address yesterday evening to a packed crowd at the Kankakee Public Library.

The speech focused on the unique set of challenges facing Kankakee and the priorities of the Mayor in the coming months and year.

“We have a unique opportunity to come together and enact innovative solutions to the problems facing our community,” Mayor Wells-Armstrong said. “Development of the Riverfront, an expansion of downtown housing and a focus on creating a community public safety plan will all be the focus in the coming year.”

Mayor Wells-Armstrong also discussed what the city has accomplished in the past year, including:  

  • • Passed a balanced general fund budget in 34 days; Also passed a balanced spending plan for the Environmental Services Utility (ESU)
  • • Successfully negotiated union contracts with the city’s firefighters, teamsters and operating engineers
  • • Purchased a much needed ambulance
  • • Passed a property tax reduction proposal
