City of Kankakee Promotes Two Veteran Police Officers

August 23, 2019

Kankakee, IL – Two long-term veteran police officers have been promoted within the Kankakee Police Department.

Michael Sneed has been with the department for twenty-two years. He has been promoted to Lieutenant and is currently assigned as the supervisor of the Gang Enforcement Tactical Unit. Lieutenant Sneed holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Calumet College of St. Joseph. He is recognized for serving for twelve years in the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group, including being the deputy director of the task force.

“First, I would like to give praise to the Lord our God because through Him, all things are possible. I would also like to thank the police and fire commissioners in their selection of me to the rank of Lieutenant. As a stakeholder and a community leader, it is truly my honor and privilege to serve the City of Kankakee to the best of my ability. In the words of former president Barack Obama, ‘A positive change will come about when ordinary people do extraordinary things.’ I challenge this community to follow me as we do the extraordinary,” said Lieutenant Michael Sneed.

Bradford Latham has served with the department for twelve years. Latham has been promoted to Sergeant. Sergeant Latham earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Calumet College of St. Joseph. Sergeant Latham is currently on the tactical response team, otherwise known as the SWAT team, but said he is ready for his next chapter.

“I am honored and fortunate enough to have been a part of a few specialty units, as well as, a school resource officer. Whenever you help someone is a great feeling! I’m looking forward to that in my new position and will continue to serve the citizens of Kankakee while taking on this leadership role,” said Sergeant Bradford Latham.

Mayor Wells-Armstrong and Kankakee Police Chief Frank Kosman also credited their hard work and dedication.

“Both lieutenant Sneed and Sergeant Latham have demonstrated a commitment not only to the City of Kankakee and to our police department, but to their own professional development. I am confident that under their leadership, our new officers will be properly trained and equipped to handle the challenges of policing,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

"Michael Sneed and Bradford Latham are examples of the high quality of personnel that fill the ranks of the Kankakee Police Department.  Both are seasoned veterans who have shown leadership in their past positions and can be expected to strive to provide even greater service to the department and the community in their new positions,” said Chief Frank Kosman.

Both officers have been assigned to the midnight shift in the patrol division.
