Kankakee’s Fire Department to Host 3rd Annual Community Safety Day

September 11, 2019

Kankakee, IL – Kankakee’s Fire Department will host their Community Safety Day this weekend. The program is called Passport to Safety. Although the event is geared toward children, all are encouraged to attend.

Community Safety Day will be held on September 14, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. located in the 200 block of South Schuyler. Several local organizations, businesses and community partners will be on site to provide information.

“The event has been very successful the last two years. Visitors range from infants to seniors. The fire department will be handing out passports and as people visit our different partners, they will receive stamps in their passport book. Once their passport book is full of stamps and they show the fire department, they will be eligible to redeem prizes,” said Captain Mike Casagrande.

“Participants can register for a variety of raffle prizes, including two bicycles. This event provides a great opportunity for us to interact with the public to promote safety in a variety of areas,” said Fire Chief Damon Schuldt.  Among these areas will be fire, medical, gas, pets, schools and safer neighborhoods.

Enhancing public safety is a focus of Mayor Wells-Armstrong’s Kankakee Forward agenda. "Activities which provide safe spaces for residents to engage with one another, learn their role in promoting safety, and build relationships with our fire department and other partners advances the goal of strengthening the community," said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Community Safety Day will take place rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Kankakee Public Library.
