City of Kankakee Welcomes New Firefighters

Kankakee, IL – The City of Kankakee has sworn in three, new firefighters this week who have started with the Kankakee Fire Department. “We are excited to have new employees because we have not hired for quite some time. Two of these new employees are new hires for recent retiring personnel,” said Fire Chief Damon Schuldt.

Firefighter Brian Wagner from Tinley Park has eight years of experience in the fire service. Wagner joins the City of Kankakee from the Crete Township Fire Protection District. Among his achievements are certifications in Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Fire Officer 1, Advanced Firefighter Tec Technician, Fire Apparatus Engineer, and Vehicle Machinery Operations.

“I am excited and would like to build trust in this community. I plan to become a better firefighter than I was the day before,” said Firefighter Brian Wagner.

Firefighter Richard Campione from Dyer, Indiana also joins the City of Kankakee from the Crete Township Fire Protection District. “I’m happy to be joining the ranks of the Kankakee Fire Department. I’m looking forward to bringing dedication, services and commitment to the City of Kankakee. I’ve always wanted to help people,” said Firefighter Richard Campione.

Campione has three years of experience in the fire service. Campione is certified in Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic and Basic Firefighter Operation.

Firefighter Nicholas Slaboszewski from Joliet joins the City of Kankakee from the Wilmington Fire Protection District. Slaboszewski also has three years of experience in the fire service and stated that he is eager to serve and protect the community.

“I’ve always wanted to be a firefighter. I am excited to be here and happy for the opportunity. I will bring a positive attitude and looking forward to a long career,” said Firefighter Nicholas Slaboszewski.

Among Slaboszewski’s achievements are certifications in Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Basic Firefighter Operations, Vehicle Machinery Operations, Rope Operations, and Swift Water Technician.

 “The Kankakee Fire Department is among the best in the state of Illinois which has been validated by their recent achievement in their ISO rating.  I am pleased to welcome three new firefighters to our team.  Having them on board will provide the support our department needs to continue delivering the best services to our residents,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
