Kankakee, IL – The City of Kankakee is kicking off their Best Dressed Pet Contest in honor of “National Dress Up Your Pet Day.” Participants have two weeks to submit their photos through the City’s website to be entered to win a prize. First, second and third place winners will be announced on social media on January 14, 2020 to celebrate the day dedicated to pets. National Dress Up Your Pet Day was created in 2009 by pet lifestyle expert, Colleen Paige. Since the day began, pet owners have taken over, some even dressing up in matching outfits.

“This contest is simply for fun and a way to encourage owners to have fun with their pets. Many also use National Dress Up Your Pet Day as a way to raise awareness for pet adoption. This contest isn’t just for cats and dogs. We want our participants to be creative. The City will gladly accept photos of other pets such as guinea pigs, bunnies or reptiles,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Submit photos for the Best Dressed Pet Contest at www.citykankakee-il.gov. Pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige suggests throwing a pet party with friends, adopting a pet or donating pet supplies to a local shelter as other ways to celebrate National Dress Up Your Pet Day. The City of Kankakee hosted a pets donation drive during National Animal Shelter Week in November.
