Kankakee, IL – Long-term police officer Michael Coash has been promoted to sergeant within the Kankakee Police Department. Sergeant Coash has been an officer for ten years. “I look forward to taking the next step in my career while continuing to serve the citizens of this great City,” said Sergeant Michael Coash.

For the last three years, Coash has been assigned as a Special Agent with the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group’s Street Suppression Unit. He is also a member of the Department’s Tactical Response Team, the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System’s Mobile Field Force Team and serves as an Honor Guard for the Department. Before accepting the KAMEG assignment, Coash was a Field Training Officer and a Bike Patrol Officer.

“Sergeant Coash has performed exemplary service as a police officer with our department. He has gained a well-rounded experience. His training and experience will serve him and the Department well in his new position,” said Police Chief Frank Kosman.

Coash was born and raised in the City of Kankakee and graduated from Bishop McNamara High School. Coash went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Governor’s State University and served in the United States Marine Corps.

“I believe in a lifetime of service where I take great pride in serving my country and my community,” said Sergeant Coash.

Among other organizations, Coash is currently a member of the Illinois Drug Enforcement Officers Association, the Illinois Tactical Officers Association, American Legion, Kankakee Valley Boat Club and the National Rifle Association. Off duty Coash says he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, boating and working out. He has three children with his wife Katie.

“I would like to congratulate Sergeant Coash on his promotion. His expertise and dedicated service to the City of Kankakee and our residents is known throughout our community,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
