January 16, 2020

Kankakee, IL – Dalton Suprenant and Joshua Ramirez were sworn in as new Kankakee Police officers. Officer Joshua Ramirez is a Kankakee resident who said he looks forward to starting his career close to home.

“I am very excited. This is what I have always wanted to do and studied for in school. I look forward to finding different ways we can assist our residents and help bring the community together,” said Officer Ramirez.

Ramirez graduated from Bishop McNamara High School and received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Ramirez worked as a correctional officer at the Kankakee County Jerome Combs Detention Center prior to joining the department.

Officer Dalton Suprenant is a Bourbonnais resident and graduated from Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. Suprenant obtained an Associate degree in law enforcement from Kankakee Community College and also has experience as a correctional officer at the Kankakee County Jerome Combs Detention Center.

Suprenant said he is proud to be following in the footsteps of his father and uncle who are both police officers.

“My uncle works here in Kankakee County. I learn a lot from both of them. The goal is to gain trust in the community and doing my part to help make a difference. I especially want to reach the kids where they would look up to police instead of being afraid of the police,” said Officer Suprenant.

“I would like to welcome Officers Ramirez and Suprenant. We appreciate having two incoming officers who will bring fresh ideas to the department,” said Deputy Chief Willie Hunt.

“Our department is very diverse and it’s a great benefit to our community. I look forward to seeing long-time careers from Officer Ramirez and Officer Suprenant,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Officers Ramirez and Suprenant will be attending the Basic Law Enforcement Training course at the University of Illinois Police Training Institute from January 20, 2020 to April 23, 2020.
