“Nurse in the Library” Dates Released for the Month of March

February 28, 2020

Kankakee, IL – A local nurse will be available to answer questions, provide information, and limited services free of charge at the Kankakee Public Library. AMITA Health St. Mary’s Hospital partnered with the Kankakee Public Library for “Nurse in the Library.” The program began last May after both partners saw a need in the community.

AMITA Health St. Mary’s Hospital Community Outreach Nurse, Deb Caise, will be on hand to help anyone get on track with their needs such as:

  • Referrals to community resources such as employment, food pantries, behavioral health services and more
  • Assistance with applying for benefits
  • Confidential consultations and assessments
  • Referrals to healthcare providers

“In my heart I believe that we are all in this together to keep our community healthy, especially the vulnerable and uninsured. Together, we can provide this healthcare. No question or need is too small to come see me at the library,” said AMITA Health St. Mary’s Hospital Community Outreach Nurse, Deb Caise.

Nurse in the Library is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Those who are interested should ask for Deb Caise at the Kankakee Public Library where she will be available on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. To schedule a confidential face-to-face meeting with the nurse, call 815-928-6205, email debra.caise@amitahealth.org, or ask for assistance at adult services on the third floor of the library.

“Nurse in the Library is an excellent resource available to the community. Our health is the most important thing we need to be mindful of and I commend AMITA Health St. Mary’s Hospital and staff at the Kankakee Public Library for their ongoing services throughout our community,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

A special presentation on hypertension will be presented by Deb Caise on Monday, March 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the Kankakee Public Library.
