COVID-19: A Reminder on What to Do if You Feel Sick

March 26, 2020

Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Fire Department continues to monitor novel (new) coronavirus (COVID-19) and would like to remind everyone the steps to take in the case should you become ill.

  • If you begin to have symptoms such as headache, cough, sneezing or a runny nose, call your primary care physician first. The primary care physicians will follow a process to pre-screen you and advise you on a course of action. Please do not rush to the hospital emergency room or call 911 unless the symptoms are severe.

  • In the event of extreme illness and you need to call 911, if able, please wait by the front door for the ambulance to arrive. Also, please inform the 911 telecommunicator if you have flu-like symptoms.

“The number of cases is growing. While it is our upmost priority to keep everyone safe, it is also important to not overcrowd our hospitals while they are working tirelessly through these challenging times. Please follow the protocol suggested by our health professionals and first responders,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Currently, there are more than two dozen confirmed cases in Kankakee County. As the City of Kankakee continues to provides updates and resources, please continue to follow health professionals for up-to-date information.
