Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Fire Department is pleased to announce a new ambulance has been added to its fleet. The ambulance replaces a 12-year-old unit with 24,000 hours on it. The department operates two Advance Life Support ambulances available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"We are very pleased to have this new addition and I would like to thank Mayor Wells-Armstrong, Comptroller Elizabeth Kubal and the City Council for their continued support in providing much needed equipment to our department,” said Fire Chief Damon Schuldt. "I would further like to thank our personnel who worked diligently in the decision-making process, and after the ambulance arrived, working to complete the necessary steps to place this ambulance in service in a very timely manner."
The fire department greatly reduced the cost by purchasing a stock unit versus an ambulance that is equipped with extra and costly additions, thereby reducing the impact to the budget and to the taxpayers.
“It is important that our first responders are equipped with what they need, especially during this critical time in the coronavirus pandemic, as well as, to better meet the needs of our residents,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
