Kankakee, IL – Governor J.B. Pritzker has extended the “Shelter-in-Place Executive Order with modifications beginning today on May 1, 2020 through Saturday, May 30, 2020. Beginning May 1, 2020, all persons ages two years and up will be required to wear a face covering or a mask in public at any time they can’t maintain a six-foot social distance. Under the Executive Order, businesses will require employees to wear one as well.

“People should wear a mask and they should be reminded if they’re not wearing a mask that they’re not, and private establishments do need to require that people who enter their establishment wear a mask,” said Governor Pritzker.

The City of Kankakee will continue to operate under the guidelines of Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order. The Kankakee Police Department will continue to work with residents, as well as local businesses to assist in seeking compliance within the community.

“We are in critical, uncharted times during this pandemic. We want to encourage everyone to make their health and safety a priority, not just for them, but also for their loved ones and others in the community. The City will continue to operate, while remaining an active voice in providing and sharing additional updates and resources,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
