Kankakee, IL – New mitigation measures have been announced for Kankakee County and Will County in response to an increase in positivity rates of COVID-19 according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Under the new mitigation measures, all meetings, social events and gatherings are to be limited to 25 people or 25% of the overall room capacity indoors. To be in compliance, the City of Kankakee will conduct City Council meetings via Zoom and will be closed for attendance for the month of September.

City Council meetings are scheduled on the first Tuesday after Labor Day on September 8, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

Public comments can be submitted until 3:00 p.m. on the day of City Council by emailing publiccomment@citykankakee-il.gov. City Council and all committee meetings will continue to stream LIVE on Comcast local channel four, the City of Kankakee’s YouTube channel and website.

“Our team continues to work hard to conduct business in the City, as well as be accessible to the public while things rapidly change under the COVID-19 pandemic. Most municipalities only provide a single platform to view public meetings. We provide multiple platforms for accessibility and transparency. The City of Kankakee will continue to follow all public health updates to be in compliance and adjust accordingly,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
