Governor Pritzker Gives Update on Mitigation Measures for Region 7

September 11, 2020

Kankakee, IL – Governor Pritzker announced mitigation measures for Region 7 including Kankakee and Will counties will continue until the average positivity rate falls below 6.5% in response to COVID-19 under the Restore Illinois Plan.

Mitigation measures went into effect on August 26, 2020. A full list of the mitigation requirements can be found at www.citykankakee-il.gov/coronavirus.php. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), although Region 7 is starting to see a downward trend by reducing positivity rates, the current positivity average falls between 6.5% and 8%.

“I’m hopeful Region 7 might become a testament to a community’s ability to turn this ship around. If they keep up the good work, Region 7 will soon be restored to Phase 4 mitigations, meaning higher indoor capacity limits for gatherings and businesses like restaurants and bars,” said Governor Pritzker.

“We will continue to follow the recommendations of our public health professionals who are providing leadership for state issued guidelines as health and safety remain a priority. Although this is a challenging time for our community, we are already experiencing favorable results from the mitigation efforts that began on August 26, 2020. We must stay the course in an effort to suppress the case positivity rate in our county. I appreciate those who continue to prioritize public health. I ask that our community remain diligent in adhering to the safety guidelines to social distance, wear face coverings, practice frequent hand-washing and take other precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

IDPH will continue to monitor each region and track progress. For more information on regions throughout the state and mitigation plans, visit https://coronavirus.illinois.gov/s/restore-illinois-mitigation-plan.
