Voter Registration Day: Get Registered to Vote

September 16, 2020

Kankakee, IL – The City of Kankakee is set to partner with the Kankakee County Clerk office and the Kankakee Public Library for National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

According to the U.S. Elections Project, the turn out for voting in most communities nationwide is under 60%. If you are not registered to vote or have questions, you are invited to stop by the first floor in the Kankakee Public Library on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. where a licensed Deputy Registrar will be available to provide direct assistance.

“Participating in our democracy by voting is a right that was fought for in this country with blood, sweat, and tears. Furthermore, our ancestors literally put their lives on the line and some died for every American to be able to vote because they understood the importance of having a voice in policy decisions. Issues that are connected to the various systems in which we all rely such as economics, education, housing, healthcare, community development, social justice and more are shaped by the people elected to represent us. I want to thank our partners for elevating the importance of civic engagement and voting. This event will serve as a great opportunity to learn more about the process and for first time voters to be prepared for the upcoming elections,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Early voting begins next week on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Dates and hours will vary depending on where you live. For more information , visit https://www.elections.il.gov/VotingAndRegistrationSystems/EarlyVotingLocationsSearch.aspx.
