Kankakee, IL – Time is running out to respond to the 2020 Census as the last day to complete the census is next Wednesday, September 30, 2020. The City of Kankakee is making its last push to encourage those to respond by mail, phone or online at www.2020census.gov.

Direct assistance to complete the census has been provided throughout the City at various pop-up block parties in neighborhoods, as well as, multiple community events. There are three City of Kankakee census pop-up block parties remaining for the month.

1. Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Edison Primary School from 5:00pm – 7:00pm
2. Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Pioneer Park from 5:00pm – 7:00pm
3. Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church from 5:00pm – 7:00pm

“Our team has been accessible in the community encouraging everyone to complete the 2020 Census as this will impact funding for our community over the next 10 years. I am asking that if you have not already completed the census, please take five minutes out of your day to help complete the count,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

Currently, the self-response rate which accounts for those who complete the census themselves through mail, online or phone for the City of Kankakee is 57.5%. The self-response rate does not include those who have responded with census takers.   Leaders nationwide have felt the deadline now being earlier in September has significantly impacted responses, along with the COVID-19 pandemic. Census takers have had to adjust their process for household visits, as well as, community outreach.
