Kankakee, IL – The City of Kankakee is hosting a veterans drive to collect items for local veterans in Kankakee County in support of Project Headspace and Timing and the Manteno Veterans Home. Items are being collected through the end of this week.
The following items are being requested:
“This is so important because they are for those who have been willing to risk their lives for us, and the preservation of the American way of life. And, while that is still absolutely the case this year, the other reason why this drive is so important is because it is a way for our community to understand how strong we are when we stand together. We have the ability to help and give hope to our veterans, and when you have the ability to help someone, you have the responsibility to do it,” said Eric W. Peterson, Co-founder of Project Headspace and Timing.
Peterson also stated he often checks in with the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno on occasion to see if there is any way he can assist the veterans or staff. This was when he was made aware of the items being requested, and reached out to the community to ask those to give back.
“The month of November is observed as National Gratitude Month. As we honor those who served our country in the armed forces during Veterans Day, it is important to show appreciation for the sacrifices they made to protect our country. Additionally, I want to thank the essential workers who care for our veterans every day. They play a significant role in honoring our local heroes. Finally, I am grateful to Eric and the Manteno Veterans Home for their willingness to partner with the City of Kankakee on this project. Taking the time to lift those who may feel forgotten is a demonstration of the love and support our veterans deserve," said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
Donations can be dropped off in the City of Kankakee’s Administration Building located at 304 S. Indiana Avenue or at the Public Safety Building located at 385 E. Oak Street through Friday, November 6, 2020. All items collected will be donated to the Manteno Veterans Home.
