Kankakee, IL – Governor Pritzker announced Regions 5, 7 and 8 in the state of Illinois will enter what is being called Tier 2 under the Restore Illinois plan today on November 11, 2020. Tier 2 is the second phase of enhanced mitigations which divides the state into 11 regions to allow for a more focused approach in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kankakee County and Will County are otherwise known as Region 7. Region 5 is southern Illinois, while Region 8 is Kane and DuPage counties in the western suburbs.
As cases continue to rise, all mitigations still apply under Tier 1, but stronger mitigations will apply. Overall, Tier 2 reduces gatherings to no more than 25 people or 25% of the overall capacity for both indoors and outdoors, limits tables to a maximum of six people at bars and restaurants, as well as other non-essential restrictions.
All mitigation measures for Tier 2 can be found here: https://coronavirus.illinois.gov/s/restore-illinois-mitigation-plan.
“This pandemic continues to create challenges in regard to public health and the local economy. I strongly encourage everyone to protect themselves and others from exposure by wearing a mask and social distancing. Frequent hand-washing; particularly before and after meals is also recommended. It would be to our benefit to approach this virus as a united community. We must modify our behavior to keep one another safe, our businesses open and to protect working families who are struggling to provide for their loved ones,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.
