Tier 3 Mitigations Update and Resources for Local Businesses

November 20, 2020

KANKAKEE, IL (November 20, 2020) – The state of Illinois will be moving into Tier 3 mitigations today on Friday, November 20, 2020 due to the spike in COVID-19 cases across the state. There are multiple resources available for local businesses during these unprecedented times.

Funding is still available for the Business Interruption Grant (BIG) Program. BIG is a $636 million program that was created by Governor Pritzker and Illinois General Assembly to assist small businesses affected by COVID-19 losses. Funding from this program can be used to help businesses with working capital expenses such as rent, utilities, payroll costs, and other operational expenses listed on their website. $220 million is available in this second round of funding. To apply, visit their website here.

Additional funding will be available through the Bounce Back Kankakee business assistance program in December. More information will be announced on the City of Kankakee’s website and social media platforms once applications are open again. First priority will be given to the hospitality and restaurant industries, as well as, other businesses most impacted by the pandemic.

On December 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., there will be a webinar session dedicated to City of Kankakee local businesses providing information on the Illinois Business Interruption Grant (BIG), pivoting business strategies, local resources, and more. This will be hosted by the City of Kankakee in partnership with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).  Registration and information for this event will be made available at www.citykankakee-il.gov.
