12.05.2020 --- Our community is grieving behind the tragedy that occurred yesterday. I have spoken with several community members and you have shared that you would like to hear from me.

One of the reasons I waited was to allow the families the opportunity to notify their own loved ones of this tragedy. Often times, social media is the tool used to share very critical information. Sometimes the families are not the ones sharing that information. I wanted the families to have the time they needed to notify their family members and loved ones.

My heart is heavy. For the last 24 hours or so, I have been praying for these families. They are hurting right now. A little girl is recovering from wounds she endured during the incident that took the life of her father. No child should ever be exposed to this type of pain and trauma.

Since the incident, Chief Kosman and I have been in constant contact as he leads our police department to investigate this case. Our detectives are focused and have been diligently working to assess what happened, respond to the families and get answers for our community.

I have reached out to the families, extended family members, the city council members and other community members to assess how we can support the families in the way that honors their needs during this time. I am respecting the privacy of the families as I believe that we all owe them their dignity. I remain committed to addressing violence in our community and finding systemic solutions that prevent further tragedies.

12.05.2020 --- Nuestra comunidad está de duelo por la tragedia que ocurrió ayer. He hablado con varios miembros de la comunidad y han compartido que le gustaría saber de mí.

Una de las razones por las que esperé fue para darles a las familias la oportunidad de notificar a sus propios seres queridos sobre esta tragedia. A menudo, las redes sociales son la herramienta que se utiliza para compartir información muy importante. A veces, las familias no son las que comparten esa información. Quería que las familias tuvieran el tiempo necesario para notificar a sus familiares y seres queridos.

Mi corazón es pesado. Durante las últimas 24 horas más o menos, he estado orando por estas familias. Están sufriendo ahora mismo. Una niña se recupera de las heridas que sufrió durante el incidente que acabó con la vida de su padre. Ningún niño debería estar expuesto a este tipo de dolor y trauma.

Desde el incidente, el Jefe Kosman y yo hemos estado en contacto constante mientras dirige nuestro departamento de policía para investigar este caso. Nuestros detectives están enfocados y han estado trabajando diligentemente para evaluar lo que sucedió, responder a las familias y obtener respuestas para nuestra comunidad.

Me he comunicado con las familias, los miembros de la familia extendida, los miembros del consejo de la ciudad y otros miembros de la comunidad para evaluar cómo podemos apoyar a las familias de una manera que honre sus necesidades durante este tiempo. Respeto la privacidad de las familias porque creo que todos les debemos su dignidad. Sigo comprometido a abordar la violencia en nuestra comunidad y a encontrar soluciones sistémicas que eviten más tragedias.
