The global pandemic has really thrown us all for a loop and left us wondering what is next. I have served as the Public Service Administrator for 20 years and never have I seen times as trying as these. But, Kankakee has persevered as it always has. Our community organizations have continued to step up and provide for those most in need. Throughout the pandemic, funding made available by the Public Service Program has assisted individuals, families, youth, seniors, those with disabilities, the homeless and allowed for homelessness prevention. Our local agencies have taken to task serving Kankakee’s residents to their maximum capacity and meeting the unmet needs of this community.

I feel the most accomplished when I think about how collaborations with our local not-for-profit agencies make a difference in the lives of the citizens of our community.

My vision for years to come is to see this community forge forward through continued service to one another. The ECDA Public Service CDBG Program provides funding to not-for-profit community agencies to provide comprehensive services that target, low-to-moderate income persons in the City of Kankakee. Eligible projects are but are not limited to at-risk youth, education, homeless services, culture, and artistic endeavors, counseling and mentoring, and senior services. Special consideration will be given to those agencies seeking matching funds, and projects that have a strong volunteer base.
