Kankakee, IL – Business owner, Maria Ochoa, started making bows for her daughter seven years ago when she noticed she was looking for a particular style, but knew she could do it herself.

“I have always been crafty. You can say that my daughter was my inspiration to start a business,” said Maria Ochoa who just opened her storefront in downtown Kankakee, Sprinkled with Glitter.

The new children’s boutique is located inside the Burfield & Remington building at 150 N. Schuyler Avenue where Maria joins the growing list of business owners investing in the downtown district.

Maria started advertising her products on social media before she began hosting pop up shops throughout the community. The pop up shops led to an even bigger following with her customers asking for more products. Maria recently shared on Facebook that she credits her loyal customers and the people who supported her along the way to open her new store.

“It’s fun, bright, colorful, and creative. I have so many people to thank. I did not want to be discouraged. Instead, I pushed myself and did it, even in a pandemic,” said Maria Ochoa, Business Owner of Sprinkled with Glitter.

“Opening a new business is always a risk but it takes a special amount of determination to do so during a pandemic. Maria’s new store is inviting, beautiful and it Immediately captures the attention of the shopper. I am proud and thankful for the business owners who continue to see the potential of growth in the City of Kankakee. I wish Maria great success in this new chapter,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

 

“When I first approached Maria about doing an interview for ‘Love My City’, I wanted to highlight a local business owner who is taking advantage of the different social media platforms to increase engagement, but also someone who grew up in Kankakee. Maria was so excited to mention that she was planning on taking a leap of faith. I am so proud that she is now fully embracing her storefront which has many touches of her fun personality throughout the store,” said Jasmyne Humble, Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

Business hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
