First Woman Officer Promoted to Sergeant in the Kankakee Police Department

April 19, 2021

Kankakee, IL – Detective Lacie Zingre Harsy recently made history as the first woman officer promoted to Sergeant in the Kankakee Police Department.

Sergeant Lacie is a seven year veteran with the department and was assigned to investigations prior to her promotion. She is a certified lead homicide investigator and has received numerous awards throughout her years of service.

Becoming an officer has always been a goal, although Sergeant Lacie states that she always jokes about being a petite woman, but can handle the role.

“I am honored to receive this promotion. I hope it shows other women that we can achieve higher ranks. There are plenty of qualified women who I work with. We are close and support each other. This is a victory that I would like to share with all of us,” said Sergeant Lacie Zingre Harsy.

In 2013, Sergeant Lacie started her career as a patrol officer. In 2016, she then transferred to the juvenile division where she worked with youth in the City of Kankakee. Working as a part-time School Resource Officer (SRO), Sergeant Lacie stated she enjoyed building relationships in the school which also helped to improve her work on the street.

“The youth look up to you as a mentor, and they do not just see a badge. The impact continues to adulthood. Some of the kids I interacted with in the school I now see in the community and there is mutual respect. If we continue to invest in our youth, that is the best platform to make a difference early on,” Sergeant Lacie Zingre Harsy.

“Sergeant Lacie represents the best of our police department. She has a great reputation in the community; particularly with youth. I am very proud of her growth and numerous accomplishments. She is our first woman promoted in the department’s history and I am proud this happened during this administration. I wish Sergeant Lacie  continued success during her career,” said Mayor Wells-Armstrong.

“Lacie Zingre has been an asset to the Kankakee Police Department in her previous assignments. We expect her experience, knowledge and strong work ethic to suit her well for further success in her new position as a supervisor,” said Police Chief, Frank Kosman.

A special presentation for Sergeant Lacie Zingre Harsy, Lieutenant Timothy Kreissler, and Sergeant Joseph Martinez is set for tonight’s City Council meeting.
