April 08, 2022

KANKAKEE, Ill. (April 8, 2022) – The City of Kankakee’s Economic and Community Development Agency (ECDA) is seeking qualifications from qualified Lead Risk Assessors to be their contracted inspector/assessor for the Lead Grant as well as General Contractors to be placed on the revolving list of Lead Certified Contractors that will be used for the Agency’s Leady Abatement and Healthy Homes programs. Furthermore, the ECDA is also seeking General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Demolition/Excavation contractors to be placed on a Bidder’s List so that they may be invited to bid on residential demolition/clearance/renovations/repair projects to be contracted by ECDA as part of its CDBG and Illinois Housing and Development Agency’s housing rehab programs.

“The City of Kankakee has been awarded several funds that help low to moderate income residents with various housing rehab needs,” states Director Brewer-Watson.  “We need a robust list of qualified contractors in rotation so we can work consistently to help as many residents as we can.  The more qualified contractors in rotation the more houses we can rehab.”

The City will select Contractors who will be placed on a rotating list of contractors who will be utilized to complete all housing rehab projects, demolition, and LEAD Based Paint Containment and Abatement work for ECDA from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023.  Qualified contractors, inspectors, and assessors are invited to submit (2) copies of their qualification proposals. Proposals must be received no later than 12 p.m. on Friday April 22, 2022.

Proposals shall be delivered to the attention of Barbi Brewer-Watson, Executive Director of Kankakee Economic and Community Development Agency and submitted to the City of Clerk’s office at 304 S. Indiana Avenue, Kankakee, Illinois 60901 by the deadline date (RFQ’s or incomplete RFQ’s received after the deadline will be rejected).

Proposals received after 12:00 p.m. on this date will not be accepted.

“The City Kankakee has substantial funding, programs and opportunities for housing rehab and neighborhood stabilization that will allow many residents to seek improvements for their home”, says Mayor Chris Curtis.  “With these unprecedented funding sources, the ECDA team is ready and staffed to implement these programs, but in order to accomplish the goals set, they need a large number of contractors to apply and become certified to accomplish the City’s vision.   2022/2023 can be a win-win situation for residents and the contractor business sector.”

If a contractor would like to become a Lead Certified Contractor please contact ECDA for funding and training assistance opportunities.
