By now, Fair Housing is a familiar pair of words that most people in the U.S. recognize as the protection from discrimination when renting or buying a home or getting a mortgage.  In 1968 when it was passed, classes of people who had experienced housing discrimination were hopeful that their opportunities for housing would improve.  As a country, we have come along way, but there is still more work to do in providing Fair Housing opportunities for everyone. 

Fair Housing testing is one way a community can better understand its Fair Housing challenges.  This type of study utilizes an inclusive group of volunteers who reach out to housing representatives to seek out rentals, mortgages, or other housing resources.  They document their various experiences and submit them to trained Fair Housing officials for review.  Those officials review the experiences and if they find Fair Housing violations, they will contact authorities who will act to remedy the issue.  A good example of a simple Fair Housing investigation was documented in Rockford, IL in 2017.  Watch the video of their results here. https://youtu.be/dxk9SkBNCTw

Por ahora, Vivienda Justa es un par de palabras familiares que la mayoría de las personas en los Estados Unidos reconocen como la protección contra la discriminación al alquilar o comprar una casa u obtener una hipoteca.
